Killifish are a diverse group of small, colorful freshwater fish found in a wide range of habitats worldwide, from the rainforests of South America to the temporary pools of Africa. One of the most fascinating aspects of killifish is their adaptability. Many species are annuals, meaning they live in environments that dry up seasonally. To survive, they have evolved to lay their eggs in the substrate, where they remain dormant until the rains return and the water refills, at which point the eggs hatch. This ability makes them particularly interesting for aquarium hobbyists. Killifish are generally peaceful and can be kept in species-only nano tanks or in community setups with other non-aggressive species.
