Bettas, also known as Siamese fighting fish, are one of the most popular and recognisable freshwater fish in the aquarium hobby. Native to the shallow rice paddies, slow-moving streams, and ponds of Southeast Asia, Bettas are renowned for their beautiful diverse colors and long silk-like flowing fins. They come in a wide variety of colors and fin types, from the classic Veil Tail to the more unique Halfmoon and Crown Tail varieties. Male Bettas do better alone or with carefully selected tankmates that will not provoke them. Female Bettas are less aggressive and can sometimes be kept in groups, known as sororities, but this requires careful monitoring and plenty of hiding spots.
