The Davies Creek Eastern Rainbowfish, scientifically known as Melanotaenia splendida, is a vibrant freshwater fish known for its stunning coloration and lively behaviour. Originating from Davies Creek in tropical north Queensland, Australia, this species is part of the Eastern Rainbowfish family, renowned for their iridescent scales that shimmer in shades of blue, silver or gold. The Davies Creek Eastern Rainbowfish is particularly admired for its dynamic display of colours and peaceful temperament, making it a popular choice for community aquariums. They thrive in well-maintained tanks with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 28°C (75°F to 82°F) and a pH between 7.0 and 8.0. These fish prefer environments with plenty of swimming space and areas to explore, along with dense vegetation and open areas. A varied diet consisting of high-quality flakes, pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods will help maintain their vibrant colors and health. Keeping them in groups of at least six individuals encourages natural schooling behavior and enhances their coloration. The Davies Creek Eastern Rainbowfish brings a splash of colour and active movement to any freshwater aquarium, providing both beauty and engaging behavior for aquarists to enjoy.
